We invite talented master’s thesis students to join us in developing cutting-edge solutions that tackle real-world challenges.
Your Project: Building on previous research, you will enhance an advanced algorithm designed for solving mixed pallet packing problems. In traditional palletizing solutions, where products come directly from a production line, the entire pallet is filled with one and the same product. This makes the process relatively easy for automated systems. However, when companies are shipping pallets to customers, a significant challenge arises: pallets often contain a mix of many different products, which can vary in size, shape, and weight.
This variation makes it difficult for robots to efficiently and correctly place boxes on the pallet. Therefore, these mixed pallets are created by humans, which can be both time-consuming, challenging and introduces a risk of repetitive strain injuries. This is the challenge that we want to solve. We’ve already made progress in dealing with some specific cases, but now we want to take a step further to develop an algorithm that can handle fully dynamic situations.
Your mission will be to:
- Refine the existing algorithm to enable real-time optimization of mixed pallets, dynamically suggesting optimal box placements based on any existing arrangement of boxes on a pallet.
- Adapt the algorithm to accommodate varying box sizes and shapes, ensuring it can efficiently handle diverse product configurations and maximize space utilization.
- Test your enhancements against real-world industrial data using our patented flexible mobile robot platform.
You will have the opportunity to work in pairs and receive support from OpiFlex’s amazing team. You will work in an inspiring environment on a unique and innovative project.
